In 1999, Lord Justice Clarke
chaired the Thames Safety Inquiry. The terms of reference of that
Inquiry asked Lord Justice Clarke to advise as to:
"whether there is a
case for a further investigation or inquiry in to the
circumstances surrounding the MARCHIONESS disaster and its causes
on 20th August 1989."
The chronology below was
prepared in order to assist Lord Justice Clarke and was published as
part of the Thames Safety Inquiry
Report.
It details the
events that occurred during the period 20th August 1989 through to
18th August 1999, when the Deputy Prime Minister announced the
Thames Safety Inquiry.
